• Vibrant City (A Bike Rack for St. John’s)

This concept was developed for a bike rack design contest hosted by the City of St. John's. Unfortunately a relative's employment with the City ultimately meant I was ineligible to participate. The text description read: St. John’s is known the world over as home to “jellybean row.” While our city’s vibrant colours are actually a modern development, they have quickly become an integral part of local identity. My rack design takes the city’s basic building block – the traditional rowhouse – and reduces it to its iconic form. It can stand alone or be grouped into miniature streetscapes, its simple shape can be painted any colour, and its open door welcomes resident and visiting users alike. The colours here were chosen from Templeton’s “Historic Colours of Newfoundland” palette.
